“First all-female unit of U.N. peacekeepers” & some personal thoughts

The first all-female peacekeeping police unit from India will be training a local police force in Liberia. Click here to read the full BBC report. When I was in Cote d’Ivoire in 1992, there were many Liberian refugees in the country. I befriended them quickly because language was not an obsticle. The Liberians I met were all very friendly and always laughing. They were amazing to be around. Yet it was very difficult to hear their experiences. Same with the Ivorians. Many children I spoke with had seen their parents murdered in front of them and they were very traumatized. This was also the first time that I met children who had never seen people of lighter skin before. One child was absolutely terrified. Many others loved to play with my hair. I remember we went into a village when translated was call “3 bones.” It was such an amazing experience.

I hope to return one day soon to be a part of the amazing things God is doing in Africa. (Especially Nigeria, were so many of my friends are from!!) So many people are being inspired to give like never before (time, resources, prayer, etc.); Lord willing, positive changes will contine to take place for generations.
